Meta’s Ad Practices Ruled Illegal Under EU Law (‼️)
Meta is sitting in the EU corner with a dunce hat on after being fined $414 million for illegally forcing users to accept personalized ads. While they work on their written apology plan, this could result in Meta allowing users to opt in or out of data permissions for targeted ads. Although this isn’t stepping into U.S. territory yet, the new ruling could be on our doorstep before we know it.

Clean rooms were created as a possible solution to the ongoing changes in the data collection process. After Elon Musk took over at the end of November, Twitter saw a 20% drop in American and Canadian brand accounts organically tweeting. Brands such as Burger King, Wendy’s, Subaru USA, and Target have cut their tweet amount by over 72%. Although many brands are paused, they have not fully jumped ship. Unfortunately, Twitter provided a great space for brands to have one-on-one conversations with consumers and build strong customer relationships that we can’t seem to find anywhere else. So now we wait and watch with one eye open and hope for the best.
