March in Food – Natural Products Expo West is Here!

Natural Products Expo West Preview

Written by Katie Volney | PR Director

This month from broadhead: dig into what’s now and what’s next in food and beverage, including a special preview of Natural Products Expo West.

Expo West trends, innovations and new products sneak peek

With more than 3,000 natural food and beverage CPG brands, including 800 first-time exhibitors expected on the trade show floor, we can’t wait to network with industry peers in person, experience exciting new innovations and hear from leaders about the latest trends. Here’s everything you need to know — whether you’ll be among the nearly 65,000 attendees at Expo West this week or keeping an eye on announcements from home.

New and noteworthy products

Brands are making waves with unique seafood CPG products including seaweed puffs, kelp chips, crackers and burgers and plant-based salmon. And protein-packed snacks are bulking up with the addition of crunchy tuna fin toppers, churritos packed with amaranth seeds and a new plant-based egg substitute.

Personally, we’re all about spicing up the show with the debut of new sauces and condiments like harissa dip (cilantro, jalapeño and serrano chiles, and chickpeas? Say less.) and the Momofuku Chili Crunch Hot Honey. If David Chang created it, we want it. Read more here.

Top trends and innovations

In its downloadable Data Trends & Product Guide, New Hope Network has compiled helpful predictions around consumer purchase trends, category growth and more. Sneak peek: Innovation in food and beverage, snack, energy and granola bar categories, growth in plant-based meal replacement drinks, and consumer desire for increased upcycling in packaging. The best of the best: The 2023 NEXTYs

Congrats to the 20 category winners of this year’s NEXTYs: an awards program that recognizes progressive, impactful and trustworthy products in the natural products industry. We love to see so many innovative products and brands make this list and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t scream for Alec’s Peanut Butter Fudge Honeycomb ice cream. See the list.

Fame client My Burger named to not one but two best-of restaurant lists

We’re seeing double as My Burger was recently named to QSR Magazine’s hottest fast casual startup list, as well as Mpls-St. Paul Magazine’s best restaurant list. Should we celebrate with the burger of the month? Don’t have to ask us twice. By the way, check out Fame’s work on the My Burger brand here.

Products we love this month

Our food and beverage team is always on the hunt for new products to try – whether new to shelves or just new to us. Here were some of our favorites this month:

  • When you just need something a little bit sweet after dinner (and who doesn’t?), Tru Fru’s White & Milk Chocolate Strawberries hit the spot.
  • You don’t have to go to the East Village for the noodles of your dreams. Throw a poached egg, some scallions and crushed peanuts on these Momofuku Soy and Scallion noodles and sad work-from-home lunches are no more.
  • It’s been four years since Agency Communications Director Emily Rinde went to Iceland and she’s still dreaming about skyr. Thankfully, brands like Siggi’s and Icelandic Provisions make this decadent yogurt accessible even when volcanoes aren’t visible in the rearview mirror.
